Five Reasons We Love Frank And Claire Underwood’s Marriage
Most drama series depict marriages in a very negative way; it always ends with a breakup or worse. Frank and Claire Underwood’s marriage (House Of Cards) is very controversial, and yet it’s the one that works the most compared to the others, and many of us would want a marriage just like the ones they have. And despite its flaws (the infidelity, the murders, Frank’s ambiguous sexual identity…), their marriage is as perfect as it can get these days.
So here’s why we think their marriage works so well:
1- They understand that marriage is a teamwork
Frank and Claire realize how partnership works: when one of them falls, the other one falls as well, and one person’s success always affects the other one. In fact, they always collaborate with each other and help each other in their careers and lives just like real teammates would do.
2- They would do anything for each other
Frank would go to great lengths to protect Claire from rumors and he wouldn’t let anything bad happen to her. At the same time, Claire always shows up for her husband because she knows how important her presence is for his political career.
3- They’re very understanding and accepting
Both of them accept each other’s flaws no matter how horrible they can be. For example, Claire knows of all the crimes that Frank committed in order to get where he is but she understands why it was necessary and that it’s the way politics work. She never judges him, just like he never judges her despite her infidelity.
4- They’re always honest and forgiving with each other
Claire never hid her infidelity from Frank because she knows how understanding he is. In fact, in marriages, it’s important to know the other person’s needs and that you’re not always able to fulfill them so it’s okay if he/she found them elsewhere. In addition, they both know that fighting and being angry with each other is useless and will only makes them weaker, that’s why they choose to always forgive each other no matter what.
5- Their marriage is based on love and mutual respect
“I love that woman. I love her more than sharks love blood.” That’s what Frank once said about Claire. One of the greatest traits of their relationship is their deep love and mutual respect; they’re both fascinated by each other’s accomplishments and they genuinely admire each other.
In conclusion, despite the fact that their marriage’s main goal is to destroy other people’s lives, many people look up to Frank and Claire Underwood as a couple. Clearly it isn’t a perfect marriage but it works for them and that’s what counts in the end.
