10 Absolutely Crazy TV Shows and Movies to Watch on Netflix

Do you ever get bored of watching the same type of show over and over again? Tired of predictable plot twists and lame cliffhangers? Well then, you’re in for a treat. Netflix hosts a great deal of both TV series and movies that are totally and completely bonkers.

From a seemingly boring teen drama to a complex movie about addiction, we’ve listed them all below. Bookmark this page and come back next time you’re craving to spice up your watch list.

American Horror Story

AHS may just be the creepiest show that’s still going. Moreover, it’s an anthology – every season follows a different story. We have ghosts and spirits in the first, nuns and Nazis in the second, witches in the third, freaks in the fourth. If you enjoy a well-crafter horror series, this one is for you. Fair warning – you may need to buy a night light after binge-watching American Horror Story. We kid you not.

Danger 5

The Australian spy satire series Danger 5 has something to offer everyone: crazy special effects, people with bird heads, Nazi dinosaurs – to only name a few. This show is so weird that it’s pretty difficult to describe and it’s best to just experience it yourself. Suffice to say that it will initially feel like a dream sequence gone wrong. However, if you’re looking for a completely different show to get hooked on and enjoy odd ‘60s references, this is the perfect choice for you.

Pretty Little Liars

Now who would have thought that a teen drama would make a list of the craziest TV shows ever? When we first started watching PLL, our expectations were set on low. As the series runs its course though, it’s pretty clear that this is no ordinary teen show. Who’s A? Who’s dead? Who’s not? How much time do these girls spend in high school? We have no idea, but we do know this: this show seems pretty set on not making any sense anytime soon, and it’s delightful. Consider it a guilty pleasure if you must.

Hemlock Grove

Hemlock Grove is a Netflix original people often underestimate, and that’s a real shame. It didn’t make the waves House of Cards or Orange is the New Black made, but it’s an exceptional horror thriller that will keep you glued to the screen from the very first episode. And it’s as crazy as it gets: think werewolves, weird experiments, and psycho teens? We’re not even completely sure of what’s going on. We can tell you this though: Hemlock Grove is a beautiful mess, and you’re missing out if you’re not giving it a shot.

Firefly became a cult series everyone is still mourning, so you should definitely tune in and see what the buzz is all about. Here’s a sneak peek at the plot: hundreds of years in the future, a renegade crew aboard a small spacecraft tries to survive as they travel the unknown parts of the galaxy and evade warring factions as well as authority agents out to get them. Think western meets SF. Not too shabby. It’s only sin? It was canceled too soon.

Sharknando 1&2

A tornado that lifts sharks out of the ocean and deposits them in Los Angeles? What’s crazy about that? Just everything. This satirical disaster film is so bonkers that you definitely need to watch it immediately. Drop everything and check it out on Netflix. The sequel is also available and it’s set in New York. We can’t even. They are both fabulous cinematic masterpieces.

Requiem for a Dream

There are some movies so good that you’d watch them over and over again. This movie is so good that you’ll only want to watch it once. Confused? We’ll tell you this: the psychological drama is so raw in its portrayal of addiction that it may be too intense for some to stomach. Requiem for a Dream isn’t your typical “drug movie” – it’s much, much more. Plus, Clint Mansell’s score is something aliens will write poems about when they finally grace us with their presence.

Enter the Void

Visually stunning, this fantasy drama is set in the neon-lit nightclub environments of Tokyo. Oscar, an American drug dealer, gets shot and continues to watch subsequent events during an out-of-body experience. The whole thing is shot from a first-person viewpoint, which makes the movie even weirder. Pretty much how you’d describe a psychedelic melodrama, right?

Monsters takes place years after a NASA probe crash in Mexico which led to the arrival of giant tentacled monsters. Unpleasant, to say the least. What makes this movie stand out from the crowd are the monster effects, and the fact that in the end it turns out to be more than your average monster movie. Definitely worth making a batch of popcorn and staring at the screen for 94 minutes.

Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me

If you liked the series, you need to watch the movie as well. Most of the television cast returned for the film and what resulted was something every bit as strange and twisted as you’d expect from David Lynch. The movie was released at Cannes and was actually booed by the audience. Here’s the deal: you’ll either love it or hate it. There’s no middle ground.
