What is the plot of S.W.A.T. Season 7?

With the series finale just around the corner, long-time fans of the show are curious as to how S.W.A.T. will end, and whether every beloved character will get the send-off they deserve.

We don’t know the entire direction that the final series will be heading, just that they’re going international again with Hondo and his team going to Mexico to escort a fugitive back into the US.

The mission proves more daunting and dangerous as it seems as complications arise, putting all their lives in danger. Hondo will also need to make an impossible decision to make as a witness’ life is threatened.

Every season of the SWAT TV show has proven to be action-filled and downright thrilling with CBS delivering indulgent storylines. For instance, after Hondo’s leadership is questioned at the end of the fourth season, he finds himself entangled in one local family’s fight for justice in Mexico.

He eventually regained command in the fifth season. By SWAT Season 6, we saw Hondo’s team upping their training with Thailand’s main SWAT team, only to stumble upon a global heroin operation with ties to Los Angeles.

For the seventh season, we’ll find Hondo and his team in Mexico, although we’ve yet to know the extent of danger that they’ll come to face. It’s however worth noting that Kenneth “Kenny” Johnson and Alex Russell, who play Officer III+1 Dominique Luca and Officer III James “Jim” Street, respectively, will only recur in the final season, which means they’ll leave the show earlier than the rest of the main cast.

S.W.A.T. is based on the 1975 show and 2003 film by the same name, created by Robert Hamner and developed by Rick Husky for Original Film, CBS Studios and Sony Pictures Television.

Cast of S.W.A.T.

Shemar Moore plays main protagonist, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr. Back in the first season, he was promoted to team leader of LAPD’s specialized tactical unit in an obvious attempt to ease the tensions between the community and the force, though he’s managed to prove himself an effective leader throughout the seasons.

Ultimately becoming an integral part of the team is Officer III James “Jim” Street, who used to be the team’s cocky newest member. There’s also Commander Robert Hicks, a senior LAPD official. You’ll also see more of Officer Zoe Powell with recurring star Anna Enger Ritch now promoted to series regular.

Previous characters included Lieutenant Detective Piper Lynch from the LAPD Hollywood Division, who notably questioned the team’s field strategy, and Officer III Christina “Chris” Alonso, the team’s canine trainer. Lynch was assigned to SWAT following Captain Jessica Cortez’s departure.

Meanwhile, Officer Alonso, played by Lina Esco, was an original cast member. With her departure, the fifth season was the last season to feature Esco as a series regular.

  • Shemar Moore as Sergeant II Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson Jr.
  • Alex Russell as Officer III James “Jim” Street
  • Kenny Johnson as Officer III+1 Dominique Luca
  • Jay Harrington as Sergeant II Deacon Kay
  • David Lim as Officer III Victor Tan
