It’s that time of year again when Rugby’s shortened format goes on a worldwide tour, bringing new fans to the game of Union. Both men’s and women’s teams will go head to head in The Sevens Stadium in Dubai to determine who starts the 2019/20 season on the front foot.

Defending men’s champions Fiji will be looking to win their fifth world title, but New Zealand are out to stop them in their tracks, whilst the USA, along with their female counterparts, will want to go one better than last season’s second-place finish. For years the women’s game has been dominated by New Zealand who have won every Sevens championship since it began.

There is a total of 10 Rugby Sevens tournaments that take place in widespread international locations such as London, Paris and Hong Kong. Tournaments work much like the recent Rugby World Cup, in that there are four pools of four teams (for both men and women) each playing each other once in a round-robin format. The winners and runners up of each pool go through to the knockout stages which include quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
