New Research Confirms that Aussies Are Huge Netflix Fans
Almost five million Australians now have access to Netflix, according to new research. Even more interesting, most of these subscriptions are now paid – no more free trials. Meanwhile, Stan and Presto are catching up.
After a stellar run in 2015, SVOD service Netflix continues to grow steadily. The latest results from Roy Morgan Research show that the streaming giant added up to 1,878,000 subscriptions (number of subscribing homes) in the three months to May 2016, including paid, free trials, and special offers from third parties. All in all, almost five million Australians now have Netflix.
SVOD rival Stan remains in distant second spot: 891,000 Australians now have access to Stan through 332,000 subscriptions. Foxtel’s SVOD offering Presto now reaches 353,000 people in 142,000 subscribing homes.
Moreover, Roy Morgan estimates that 92% of Netflix subscriptions in the May Quarter were paid – that’s 1,734,000 subscribing homes paying $8.99 to $14.99 a month for the service: so at least $15.5 million (AUD)/month in revenue from Australians for the $40 billion (USD) company. Meanwhile, 78% of Stan subscriptions and 64% of Presto’s are paid.
