Spoiler alert! Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed that they have begun writing episodes for Game of Thrones Season 6 and that the TV series will diverge from the books in the next season even more.
This isn’t such a big surprise, especially since season five is quickly catching up with events in the books and is also somewhat diverging from what readers already know. For example, Daenerys and Tyrion didn’t meet in the novels yet, but they seem to be getting close to a one-on-one encounter on the small screen.
The writers also added that not only will the events in the TV series and books vary, but the ending George R.R. Martin has planned may not be the same in the TV series. The author is attempting to complete the next book, Winds of Winter, before the release of the show’s season six, which will likely happen in spring 2016.
