Bragging rights for the year are up for the grabs in the world of baseball and the MLB with the 2019 World Series beginning this week, when the champions of the National and American Leagues do battle. It should be a cracking series between the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals, and you won’t miss a key moment of the tournament when watching it live at home on your TV, or streaming the games to a mobile device using the options listed in this guide.
World Series 2019 Preview
The 2019 World Series will be the 115th edition of the pinnacle of the MLB. It is a best of seven match series between the winner of the National League, the Washington Nationals, and the American League Champion, the Houston Astros. This will be the first time the Nationals have been in the World Series and the first time since 1933 that a team based in the nation’s capital has reached the final games of the season, while the Astros will be looking to become World Series champions for the second time in three years. Whoever wins, it shapes up as a compelling series, and there’s an added benefit to watching the World Series in Australia, as the games will air at a much friendlier time than they do for fans on the US East Coast.
The Nationals were moved to Washington and the MLB just 14 years ago, and though they had a difficult initiation to the top league in the world, they have turned things around to win division titles in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017. A World Series had eluded them to date though, and things didn’t seem likely to change this year when they found themselves at 19-31 50 games into the season. The Nationals rallied, however, coming from the clouds to earn themselves an inaugural World Series berth.
The Astros have been around a little longer, having been established back in 1962. The 20th century didn’t yield a great deal of silverware though, and it wasn’t until 2005 that they first made it to the World Series. They lost to the White Sox, and it wasn’t until two years ago that they finally broke their duck by winning their first ever World Series against the Dodgers. Having won a league-high 107 games this season and earning themselves the home advantage in this series in the process, they will head in as favourites to take it out for the second time in three years.
