Now it’s time for the clubs themselves to strut their stuff, and the best in the business will descend on the hallowed turf of Suncorp Stadium for the second edition of the Brisbane Rugby 10’s, and you can enjoy every minute of the action when watching live on a standard or HD TV, or streaming the event to a mobile device with a Free trial.
2018 Brisbane Tens Preview
The Global Tens format is pretty much a hybrid of traditional Rugby and the Rugby World Sevens. The 2018 edition of the competition will see three Pools with four teams, with three sides from each group coming from Australia and New Zealand via the Super Rugby, while the fourth team for each Pool will be an international side. For 2018, those sides are The Panasonic Wild Knights for Pool A, Pool B has Section Paloise (Pau) from the Top 14 in Europe, while Pool C has Fiji, which has really come of age in Rugby Union via the Gold Medal in the 2016 Olympics at Rio. The competition also sees the clubs to use a ‘Wildcard’, which means they can bring a former star out of retirement. Some of the names already been announced are Drew Mitchell (Waratahs), Carlos Spencer (Blues) and Carl Hayman (Pau).
Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane Australia
Dates: Friday, 9 February – Saturday, 10 February
The Brisbane Tens for 2018 looks to be a fascinating fixture on paper, with most eyes sure to be on Pool C, which has already been dubbed the ‘Group Of Death’. It features the Brumbies, the Crusaders, the Hurricanes and Fiji. You have the best Australian side against two of the best NZ sides going around, and add the Fiji team, who are recent Gold Medal winners from the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. That, and the fact they are a dominant force in the Rugby World Sevens, so this format of the game will really suit them. Pool B is also a ripper, with Pau, the Waratahs, Chiefs and the Highlanders. The Chiefs won the inaugural edition of the Brisbane Tens last year and will be looking to repeat the dose. The Waratahs were a huge flop in the Super Rugby last year, so this will give us a good guide as to where they are at for the 2018 season, but you won’t find your favourite players or teams on Free to air during the Brisbane Tens.
