Two of the biggest sides in Europe clash for one of the great prizes in world Football this week, when Liverpool and Sevilla meet in Switzerland, to decide who will be crowned the 2016 Europa League Champions.
Sevilla are looking to win their third consecutive title, but Jurgen Klopp’s men have other plans and you can enjoy the Europa League Finals using a standard or HD TV, as well as live internet and mobile streaming options with a Free Trial.
2016 Europa League Finals Preview
Formerly known as the Europa Cup the tournament started in 1971 and as you’d expect, the bigger nations aka Italy, England and Spain have dominated the competition, with Sevilla holding the record of most wins (4), followed by Juventus, Internazionale and Liverpool, all of which have 3. The winner of the tournament receives approximately 15 Million British Pounds (19 million AUD), so there’s more than just bragging rights at stake.
Liverpool sacked manager Brendan Rodgers midway through the Europa League, and Jurgen Klopp didn’t really dazzle his side into form in any rush, but a round of 16 win against Manchester United and an Anfield classic against Dortmund have helped guide his club to the Final. The Reds are famous for getting wins they really have no right to, or against the odds, but if they are to be victorious here, Phillipe Coutinho is the man. He has been in sparkling form recently, with Klopp routinely referring to him a “genius”.
No side has ever won three straight Europa League titles, so history awaits Sevilla. They got knocked out of the Champions League, admittedly in a group that featured Manchester City and Juventus. They looked pretty comfortable in progressing until the Semi Final, where they had to dispatch fellow Spanish League rivals Bilbao in a thrilling penalty shoot out. Kevin Gamiero has been outstanding since the departure of Carlos Bacca, taking on more responsibility and guiding his team sensationally in the forward half, but all that will not matter when the sides take the field on May 19.
