Men’s World Handball Championship Preview
The World Handball Championship is held every two years and it consists of the 24 best nations in the world across four groups for the group stage before progressing to the knockout stage to determine the winner. France is the host nation and they have dominated the World Championship in recent times, winning three of the last four, including the last two with a 25-22 nail-biter over Qatar in 2015. They are the number one seed and the clear team to beat.
The tournament will be played across eight venues in France, with the largest being the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, which can hold close to 28,000 people. The key rivals for France in terms of taking away their world title will be Denmark, Poland, Spain and Germany. Outside Spain, the other three nations were alongside France in the final four at the Rio Olympics, and that could well be the case again, but Spain have won two recent world titles and didn’t compete at Rio, so they are a definite threat for France.
