The Australian is best known for her modelling work and television presenting, and in stepping into this role is to play a woman “whose sarcastic sense of humor and captivating looks quickly draw the attention of some of Litchfield’s inmates.”
An interview with the American edition of Elle magazine saw Rose announce the news, which she followed up by hinting at the character’s name on her social media accounts, using the hashtag #stellaishere.
A Netflix spokesperson confirmed the role to Fairfax Media, and also released the character’s full name: Stella Carlin.
American screenwriter Jenji Kohan is behind the Orange Is The New Black television series, set in a fictional women’s prison – Litchfield Federal Correctional Institution – and inspired by the book of the same name by Piper Kerman.
The third season of the show is currently being filmed and is expected to air later this year on Foxtel’s Showcase channel.
Despite Netflix hoping to launch a local streaming service for Australia in the first quarter of this year, it’s understood that Foxtel retain the rights to broadcast Orange Is The New Black.
Orange Is The New Black will be airing live on Foxtel, with the season premiere airing at 8:00 pm Sydney time on Saturday the 3rd of February. It can also be seen on the Showcase channel on Foxtel.
