The traditional Thursday night NFL season opener sees the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots face conference rivals the Pittsburgh Steelers, in what is expected to be one of the best banner raising games in years.
Thanks to a federal judge lifting the ‘Deflategate’ discipline imposed by commissioner Roger Goodell, the Patriots will be celebrating Super Bowl victory number four with their leader Tom Brady, and you need not miss a moment of the excitement when watching it live on a standard or HD TV, or streaming the game to a compatible mobile or internet connected device with a Free trial.
Steelers vs Patriots Preview
The NFL popularity has hit fever pitch down under thanks to Aussie Jarryd Hayne making the 53 man squad for the San Francisco 49ers, and this year’s opening game of the season between the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers has everything a fan could hope to see. With the game being played at Gillette Stadium, and the ‘Deflategate’ controversy of the past seven months still simmering, the sight of Tom Brady leading his team is sure to be met with resounding cheers.
The Patriots title defense will begin without several key players, as receiver Brandon Lafell won’t be available for six weeks, center Bryan Stork is reportedly recovering from a concussion and lead running back LeGarrette Blount is suspended for the opener. Just the same, Tom Brady will not lack for scoring options with top receiver Julian Edelman and the mammoth tight end combo of 6’ 6” all-pro Rob Gronkowski and 6’ 7” Scott Chandler.
Coach Mike Tomlin and the Pittsburgh Steelers will also be missing their share of important weapons, with running back Le’Veon Bell and receiver Martavius Bryant both out due to suspensions, and center Maurkice Pouncey nursing an injury. But all-pro quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and Pittsburgh’s No. 2 ranked passing offense still boasts superstar wide receiver Antonio Brown, making this must see NFL TV.

It’ll be very interesting to see how the New England Patriots go in the opening week given star quarterback Tom Brady is free to play after the ‘Deflate-gate’ incident that consumed much of his off season, since their Super Bowl win last year. There was uncertainty surrounding his availability as recently as a week ago, but now that’s he’ll be leading the team the Patriots go into the game as favourites, given they are the reigning champs.
It will also be of great interest to see how the Patriots overcome notable changes on both sides of the ball, with third down back Shane Vereen leaving for the NY Giants, and defensive stalwarts Darrelle Revis, Brandon Browner and Vince Wilfork also taking up new residences elsewhere. With that being said, the Patriots have shown a knack for adapting to their situation under the leadership of coach Bill Belicheck, and that’s not expected to change anytime soon with the ’Hoodie’ at the helm. So while you can watch the Patriots v Steelers on Free to Air, don‘t look for Monday night’s game with Jarryd Hayne’s San Francisco 49rs v Vikings on Free View in Australia.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a bit shaky with their defence during the pre season, most noticeably with their tackling after the catch and run stopping, but they looked sharp against the Jaguars, sacking quarterback Blake Bortles multiple times. Despite the defensive lapses, which may be contributed to playing a softer scheme, their ability to score has kept pace behind quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who at 6’5’’ is very difficult to take down and has a knack of making huge plays just when things seem to break down.
Coming off an 11-5 mark last season that ended with a wild-card loss to rival Baltimore, the Steelers enter the season with question marks of their own, but still have more than enough ammunition on both sides of the ball to start the season with an upset win over the defending champs, and you can stream the Steelers vs Patriots live to a mobile device or watch this NFL game online.
