Why This World Cup Match Matters
India comes into this important game after a comfortable nine wicket win over the UAE at the WACA, bowling them out for 102 and getting the target quite comfortably, losing just one wicket in the 19 over chase to remain unbeaten during a run that includes an impressive showing with South Africa. While they had their way with the UAE, they can’t afford to let up in this match against West Indies who are sure to be tossing convention to the wind.
The West Indies are coming off a heavy defeat at the hands of surging World Cup favourites South Africa, losing by 257 runs thanks to the Proteas scoring a blistering 5/408 with AB De Villiers recording the fastest 150 in ODI history. The Windies had no hope trying to get that target, and got out for a cheap 151. So on paper no one’s giving them this game, but as history has shown this is the time where the tournament can get really interesting, as there’s almost always a few ‘upsets’ around the mid-way point. While India represents a major challenge, look for the West Indies side to be undaunted by the occasion.

India are the reigning World Cup Champions and are undefeated so far in the 2015 World Cup, including a brilliant win against South Africa, who have since played two outstanding games. India took care of the UAE quite easily, and will have to prepare for a much stiffer assignment.
India Players to Watch
Ajinkya Rahane is the opening batsman who has a solid ODI record, and has so far had a pretty strong performance in the 2015 World Cup of Cricket. He is usually very good against the quicks, so the likes of Jerome Taylor and Jason Holder will be challenges he will relish.
Virat Kholi is probably second to De Villiers as the best batsman in the world. His technique is clinical, and his aggression, along with his near perfect execution of rival teams, is something to admire and provides reminders of his hero, Sachin Tendulkar. He loves to rise to the occasion, and this is one.
West Indies Preview
The Windies are coming off being thrashed by South Africa, in particular AB De Villiers, who produced one of the great batting displays of the modern, with some help from horrible bowling from Taylor and Holder. The target was a record for the SCG and it was a task too great for the Windies, who fell 257 runs short, and will look to get back to the form they play so well.
West Indies Players to Watch
The chances of West Indies rely solely on one man- Chris Gayle. His opening batting is just so vital to the Windies. If he fires, they generally go close to winning, but if he gets out cheaply, then they are in awful trouble. We saw a couple of games back with his double century that he is one of the most devastating batsman in the world.
Jason Holder is a fast bowler who did bowl so well early in the game against South Africa, then when it came down to the crunch late in the innings, the pressure that De Villiers was forcing was too much and Holder caved in badly. He is a class bowler that can take vital wickets when asked.
India Will Win If..
Just continue what they are doing. They are undefeated and haven’t looked close to losing. Just keep playing their style and they will go a long way towards victory. In saying that, apart from the UAE game, their recent efforts at the WACA have been ordinary.
West Indies Will Win If..
The fast bowlers have to apply some serious heat on the Indian batsman. The pitch is usually a bowling paradise due to the speed and bounce it provides, which is near impossible to deal with as a batsman. if they can get some early wickets, they will be right into the match up to their ears.
