A recent wholesale agreement between TV provider Foxtel and Australia’s leading telecommunications company Telstra will see pay tv giants, Foxtel, reselling Telstra’s fixed line broadband and telephony services. This move will position Foxtel as a direct competitor with the Telco as well as other internet service providers like optus, iiNet and TPG. Foxtel’s calling it Triple Play, and it aims to boost household penetration of Foxtel in Australia by 30%.

Triple Play will be an interesting move for Foxtel, especially from a Telstra perspective (Telstra has 50% stake in Foxtel) as this product runs the risk of cannibalising against BigPond Movies. ownership of Foxtel as Triple Play runs the risk of competing directly against Telstra’a

In addition to competing directly with Telstra, Foxtel will also go up against iiNet (broadband/home phone package bundled with Fetch TV’s channels for $89.95 per month) and optus (similar deal for $79.90).
