Foxtel Announces New Australian Mini-Series: Secret City

Not long after Foxtel announced plans to double its output of new Australian scripted, factual, lifestyle and entertainment programming by 2018, we find out that the company is already working on a new event mini-series. Starring Anna Torv, Damon Herriman and Dan Wyllie, Secret City is a political thriller scheduled to air in March 2016 on showcase.

Secret City will start shooting in the national capital, Canberra, in August. Produced by Matchbox Pictures, the mini-series is inspired by the best-selling novels “The Marmalade Files” and “The Mandarin Code” by journalists Chris Uhlmann and Steve Lewis. We’re talking about a high stakes political thriller set in a world of secrets, lies, murder and betrayal. The cast includes Anna Torv (Fringe, Foxtel’s Deadline Gallipoli), Damon Herriman (Justified, The Water Diviner) and Dan Wyllie (Puberty Blues, Foxtel’s Tangle).

Here’s a first look at the synopsis: beneath the placid facade of Canberra, amidst rising tension between China and America, senior political journalist Harriet Dunkley (Torv) uncovers a secret city of interlocked conspiracies, putting innocent lives in danger – including her own.

“This new event mini-series is further commitment by Foxtel to explore bold and interesting ideas for the screen and commission unique Australian storytelling to complement the best of the international series which are on offer to our subscribers,” Foxtel Executive Director of Television Brian Walsh said.

Secret City is a Matchbox Pictures production for Foxtel, supported by Screen Australia and Screen ACT. The series will air in March 2016 on showcase.
