In a move that could change the face of subscription TV in Australia, Foxtel has just announced major changes in its package and pricing plans. In a move that’s clearly an early Christmas for subscribers, come November, Foxtel’s new Entertainment pack rates will be slashed by half! And there are plans to provide existing customers bonus content, at no extra cost.
Foxtel’s Entertainment package will now start at $25 for a 12 month subscription. That’s exactly half the price it used to be. Cost of premium tiers have also been reduced, while piling on the benefits. The Movies Pack and the Drama Pack (which now includes showcase, BBC First, FX, 13th Street and the new BoxSets channel) will come at $20 and the Sports Pack will be at $25. Foxtel also plans to announce a new bundling for Broadband, Foxtel and phone shortly.
Existing customers who have the Premium Movies and Drama subscriptions will get a few pay-per-view movies, including new releases, at no extra cost. All subscribers of at least one General Entertainment pack will also get free access to Foxtel’s new BoxSets channel.
Foxtel is also expanding it program offering with the addition of Discovery Kids and new range of HD channels, including sports and movies, taking the count of HD channels to 36. Foxtel’s new set-top box, iQ3, currently in field trials, will include an improved Electronic Program Guide, sophisticated search and the ability to “Start Over” a program. “The changes we are announcing today constitute a defining moment in Australian media. With amazing bonuses for current customers, new pricing designed to make Foxtel more accessible and with iQ3 and Triple-Play just around the corner, the time has never been better to take advantage of this golden age of television through Foxtel,” shared Mr. Freudenstein, Foxtel’s CEO.
