The Ashes 2nd Test Claims Top Spot of Overnight Ratings for Nine
More cricket action continues with The Ashes live on 9Gem with Australia battling it out with England for the 2nd test. It’s the oldest rivalry known in Australian sport, with the First Test ending in the Australian team securing their first ever win at ‘The Fortress’ of Edgbaston in 18 years. It was another exciting night — this time, at Lord’s — that saw Australia gaining more lead over England, as the latter collapses even further.
Thanks to Nine’s coverage of all five Test matches between Australia and England, Aussies are able to catch every piece of the action live on free to air. It was a big night for free to air ratings that saw the last day of the First Test Match reaching up to 760,000 viewers for the 5-city aggregate figure. For the Second Test, first day raked in 270,000 viewership with day two garnering up to 305,000. Given the First Test match’s pattern, we’re bound to see an increase in viewership as the games continue on until Sunday.
Nine Network is the official and exclusive partner of the Ashes on free to air and is the only place you can stream all matches live, plus on demand catch up on 9Now. Fans of the Ashes can tune in to the remaining 4 Test matches with the second Test match running until the 18th of August. It will be held at Lord’s in London, and broadcast live every night at 7:30PM AEST on 9Gem.

NRL Thursday Night Soars to Top Spot
It was a great Thursday night for sports with the NRL match between the Sea Eagles and the Wests Tigers claiming the top spot for subscription TV. With over 182,000 viewership for overnight ratings, NRL is proving to get even more exciting with the Qualifiers and Semis happening next month. On a non-sports-related note, hit lifestyle show Grand Designs Australia has also been consistently packing in viewers with a solid 45,000 from last night’s viewership — an impressive feat for the show’s eighth season run.
