The Block Overtakes The Masked Singer Australia for Monday Overnight Ratings
Ever since the premiere of its 15th season on Nine, The Block has consistently topped the charts on the free to air overnight ratings. It’s no surprise that it’s recognised as Australia’s most successful reality program! However, with the arrival of The Masked Singer Australia on Network Ten, it seemed as though The Block was about to lose its status as the number 1 reality show on free to air.
After consistently hitting over one million viewers, The Masked Singer Australia has dropped to only 880,000 viewers, while The Block has regained its momentum clinching the top spot with 979,000 total viewers across 5 city metro figures. It seems as though even the big reveal episode of The Masked Singer was not enough to keep Nine’s juggernaut of a reality show down for long.
It would also be interesting to see how the ratings for these free to air shows pan out as the days go on and especially with the introduction of new seasons of other hit shows such as Love Island Australia.

Big Weekend for Sport with Rugby World Cup & NRL Grand Finals Coverage
It has been quite the weekend for Aussie sports fans with several and simultaneous coverage of some of the biggest sporting events. Last Saturday was the 2019 Rugby World Cup coverage of the match between Australia and Uruguay, with about 174,000 tuning in as the Australian team defeated the latter 45-10. Other world cup matches that scored big with overnight ratings included England v Argentina with 151,000 and Japan v Samoa with 127,000.
Sunday saw the long awaited grand finals matches for NRL and NRLW. The NRL Women’s Grand Finals between Broncos and Dragons took home the lead with 109,000, which was followed by the men’s finals at 82,000. This was quite a low turnout for the final match of the season, especially how other preceding matches have reached as high as over 300,000 viewers overnight.
