Winter Is Coming… to Foxtel!
You can tell that people are huge fans of a TV show when they start talking about the next season months before it goes to air! Game of Thrones premiered its seventh season on July 17, and while that’s great for those who’ve already got Foxtel installed and running at home, for those that don’t there’s got to be another solution.
HBO doesn’t give Game of Thrones to online stores such as iTunes or Google Play for a while after the show airs, so if you want to see each episode as it airs doing it that way isn’t an option.
Fortunately, there’s another, legal option – Foxtel Now (the online streaming version of cable TV giant Foxtel). Previously known as Foxtel Play, Foxtel Now works on PCs or Macs, mobile devices, Chromecast, Telstra TV and PS4. Alternatively, you can still use the Foxtel Play app on Samsung and LG smart TVs, or you can download it to your XBOX from your device’s store – it’s free, of course.
Additionally, if you have a Foxtel subscription you can stream live and watch previously-aired episodes with the Foxtel app for iOS, Android, Windows and Mac. Foxtel Now is available on mobile devices as soon as you sign up – that includes access to both live channels and the on-demand library, and perhaps best of all, there’s a free 2 weeks trial available to everyone.

Both the Drama and Pop packs include Showcase, the channel where you will be able to watch the Game of Thrones live Online along with all the other exclusive HBO shows. You can get them for $15/month each or both at a discount – $25/month.
How do I watch Foxtel Now?
Just fire up your app and you can flick through all the Foxtel channels you’ve picked, streaming in real time and with the same content as the channels have on Foxtel itself. It’s quick, easy and, best of all, totally free of any contracts or setup fees.
And you’re good to go! Just set yourself a reminder for 11:00 am (AEST) on every Monday at the same time until August 28. Foxtel Now will make sure you get your Game of Thrones fix. And remember, thanks to the wonders of online streaming you don’t have to be ready to watch when the clock strikes 11 – you can watch episodes on demand via Foxtel Now or simply wait for the full Game of Thrones replays at 8:30 pm each and every Monday.
Piracy is never the right option
If you feel like complaining about Foxtel’s monopoly over Game of Thrones, note that things are very similar in the US as well. The show is exclusive to HBO, so fans need an HBO Now subscription to stream the acclaimed series. After all, we’re talking about a global TV phenomenon and HBO’s biggest hit. It’s natural for them to protect their investment.
Moreover, with Game of Thrones being the most illegally downloaded show of all time and all that, HBO has been boosting its efforts of fighting piracy ever since last year. ISPs were sent thousands of warnings and encouraged to take action against pirates. The network urges providers to single out and warn users who download and share unauthorized HBO content. While ISPs are not legally obligates to do so, you might get an email if you succumb to torrent sites, which is never pleasant.
Not to mention the fact that, due to HBO’s continuous efforts, popular Game of Thrones torrents are often removed shortly after hitting the web. Spending $15/month should be worth it to avoid the hassle. Think about it – you can even share the subscription with a friend and pay 50/50.
Game of Thrones on HD TV
Of course, arguably the best way to enjoy Game of Thrones is to get a Foxtel subscription. You need the Foxtel Drama pack and you can watch in brilliant HD either at the same time as the US, or catch one of the many Game of Thrones replays Foxtel airs throughout the week.
Your Foxtel subscription comes with an IQ3 set top box, Foxtel’s most advanced device to date. It allows you to pause and rewind live TV, as well as record your favourite shows at the touch of a button.
