More than two years after its Australian launch, the streaming service continues to increase its content catalogue with Paramount+ originals that are as excellent as offerings from streaming’s major players. What is Paramount Plus?

With decades of movie and TV production between them, Paramount Pictures and the CBS Network joined forces as a huge media company with the Viacom-CBS merger we now know as ViacomCBS, at the end of 2019.

That brought together two titans of entertainment – the mighty Paramount studio with its decades of movie history, and the television icon, CBS network, which is one of the original “big three” TV networks in the US and one of the pioneers of TV-focused streaming services with CBS All Access.

While CBS All Access has run for many years as a paid streaming companion to the TV network, when ViacomCBS announced that they’d be upping the streaming stakes and rebranding as Paramount Plus to replace the formerly existing streaming service 10 All Access, people started to take notice.

This only means an influx of new content to the new Paramount service, particularly from Paramount Pictures, whose massive movie library will be at the ready alongside CBS’s extensive library of TV shows.

The big change there is that the premium Showtime network’s content (which has been exclusive to Stan for several years) is now part of the Paramount Plus library. Every title on Paramount+ is owned by CBSViacom and Paramount, which means they don’t have to pay licensing fees for third-party content.

The Paramount Plus launch in Australia is different from its US counterpart in one major way. In the US, CBS All Access subscribers can choose between an ad-supported plan at a reduced price, or a premium commercial-free tier for a few dollars more a month. In Australia, Paramount Plus follows the model that 10 All Access used – just the one tier, completely ad-free.

But it gets even better than that. The existing 10 All Access streaming service is rolled into the new Paramount Plus service and apps, with a whole lot of extra content at a lower cost! So what is the Paramount Plus Australia price?

Paramount Plus costs $9.99 per month for its Standard Plan and $13.99 per month for Premium, making it one of the cheapest streaming services in Australia.

Is there a Paramount Plus free trial?

New customers can test drive the service with a seven day free trial. In the US, Paramount Plus also offers a one-week trial, while 10 All Access in Australia offered a full month.

While the Paramount Plus free trial is shorter than that of 10 All Access, the deep catalogue of premium content the former offers makes up for it. If you think you don’t have enough streaming services, Paramount Plus makes for a valuable addition.

Paramount Plus is comparable to Disney Plus because both streaming services produce their own content alongside their subsidiaries’ programming. While Netflix and Amazon Prime Video also produce their original shows and movies, many of the titles in their catalogue are licensed content from third parties.

Price-wise, Disney Plus’ single tier monthly plan costs $13.99/month, Netflix’s Standard ad-free plan is offered for $16.99/month, Paramount Plus costs $9.99/month, and Amazon Prime at $9.99 per month. All except for Netflix offer a yearly plan – Disney Plus at $139.99, Paramount Plus at $89.99, and Amazon Prime for only $79.
