Dealing with the constantly shifting demands of technology isn’t easy no matter how old you are. The Internet has suddenly become a necessity, and the ins and outs of getting connected are confusing for the best of us – let alone those who have lived a large majority of their life without having to worry about it. Bundles, speeds, data limits – it can get overwhelming very quickly.
Fortunately, Sumo Broadband makes it easy for pensioners to get connected. They offer cheap, simple plans to make it as straightforward as possible to get exactly what you need. They’re also one of the only providers to also offer to hook up your gas and electricity, which is not only incredibly convenient but it’ll save you money.
Are there plans specifically for seniors?
Sumo Broadband doesn’t currently offer plans specifically targeted at seniors, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, very few broadband providers do this these days, with the simple reason for that being that you can find far better deals than what these ‘pensioner plans’ were ever able to offer anyway. Companies that previously provided these typically did so in the form of a plan with very little data, and which didn’t save you a whole lot money. With Sumo, though you won’t find a plan specifically aimed at pensioners, you will find plenty that are suitable for you and how you use the internet.

Best Sumo Broadband plans for Seniors
The two Sumo Broadband plans we’d recommend for seniors are relatively diverse in their offerings, but share a common theme of good value and no lock-in contracts.
Our recommendation for seniors is the Standard Speed Unlimited NBN, which is simple, hassle-free, and won’t blow the bank. For a low monthly cost this plan will give you access to unlimited data, meaning if you want to tune into your favourite shows and movies on Netflix you can do so without worrying about exceeding your data limit. It’s a fair bit quicker than the Basic Speed Unlimited, which you’ll appreciate when watching your shows without any interruptions or ‘buffering’.
What’s more, you can add in a home phone connection for just $10/month extra. If you already have a modem, this plan will come in very cheap – if you don’t, it’s $89 to have one supplied for you by Sumo, but that’s a one-off fee and the modem is delivered to your door configured and ready to use.
Bundle and save more
Sumo also offers gas and electricity services, so if you’re looking to save a little more you can bundle these services together and get an even better deal. We recommend the Super Saver Plan 3, which offers – unlimited data on the NBN25 speed tier, and a pre-configured modem for $89 if you need it – but with the addition of reduced price electricity and gas services, and a few bucks off your monthly internet bill.
Plus, this bundle means you can keep all your bills in one place, rather than having to deal with three different companies for three different services.
Both of these plans – and all the rest that Sumo offer – are on month-to-month contracts, meaning if you’re not happy, you can leave whenever you like. No long-term deals that lock you into something you might not end up wanting or needing, no hidden fees – just simple, flexible, good value plans.
What about phone calls?
Both of these broadband deals allow Seniors to add a home phone connection to a plan for just $10/month. This gives you unlimited calls to local and national numbers, while calls to Australian mobiles cost 20 cents per minute. If you change your phone number you won’t have to pay any extra fees, but be aware that if you want to keep your existing number there is a one-off $29 charge.
Is Sumo Broadband a good fit?
If you’re sick of lengthy contracts and hidden fees, Sumo could be the solution to your internet needs. Ultimately it depends on specifically what you need, but the deals outlined above cater to a large audience – you won’t have to worry about extra fees for exceeding your data allowance, you’ll have a good connection speed, and if for whatever reason you want to leave, you can do so at the end of any given month. With a home phone line able to be added on for a low fee and the ability to get your electricity and gas services bundled into the same service, there’s plenty for pensioners to like about Sumo’s range of broadband plans.
