A huge weekend of sport is looming around the globe, with the United Kingdom taking centre stage for a couple of major events and South Africa playing host to one of surfing’s most exciting events, while back home, one of the game’s of the year will headline Friday night in the AFL.

Cricket

Australia Cricket

After dominating England in the ODI series the Aussie women’s cricket team will be looking to continue the hurt for their British counterparts as we come into day 2 of the Ashes Test. Elise Perry will once again be the go-to player for Australia in their first test since November 2017. You can catch all the action on 9GEM.

Rugby

the rugby championship

With the Super Rugby season wrapping up, we cast our attention to the international arena as the Rugby Championship kicks off this weekend. Australia will take on the Springbok’s in Johannesburg in a match that is already mired in controversy following the decision of South African coach Rassie Erasmus to field what is essentially a second tier side featuring three debutants and with half a dozen genuine first choice players. The rest of the squad has already departed to New Zealand to prepare for next week’s match against the world number ones, and you can catch the Kiwi’s doing battle with the Jaguar’s in Argentina Sunday morning from 4:05am exclusively on Foxtel and Kayo.

Undoubtedly the match of the round, second place Collingwood travel to Western Sydney to take on the sixth placed GWS Giants. A thrilling and unexpected last start victory for the Magpies in Perth over the West Coast Eagles has them full of confidence GWS will be hoping the support of their home crowd can get them back on track after last week’s loss to Richmond consigned them to their fourth loss in five matches. This is an important match for both times and you’ll be able to see how it all unfolds exclusively on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

NRL

Origin is done and dusted and that means the focus returns solely onto the weekly competition as we begin the approach to the finals series. The Roosters and the Knights are two teams that are likely to feature come September and they make for an intriguing contest on Saturday afternoon. Kalyn Ponga returns for Newcastle and he could be the spark to cause an upset over the high flying Sydney team following on from the Round 11 boil over that saw the Novocastrians pluck the chooks feathers to the tune of 38-12. Can the Knights become the first team to defeat the Roosters twice in 2019? Find out exclusively on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.

Golf

The Open

It’s major season once again with The British Open Championship having teed off on Thursday. The tournament returns to Northern Ireland’s Royal Portrush for the first time in nearly 70 years. The location of this years open has resulted in Northern Ireland native Rory McIllroy being installed as the favourite to take it out having set a course record of 61 as a 16 year old. Brooks Koepka is the primary challenger whilst the resurgent Tiger Woods and Justin Rose are the other likely challengers. Whilst there’s a healthy prize pool of $10.75 million US, only one player will lift the trophy and take out the top prize of nearly two million and you can see every drive, chip and putt exclusively on Kayo Sports and Foxtel.
