It would be an understatement to say that Foxtel has been generous to its customers recently. After all, the launch of the entertainment package last year slashed the entry level cost of Foxtel to a very affordable $25/month, and the IQ3 promises the power to record entire series of your favourite shows, and really take control of what’s being shown in your living room.
The entertainment pack is fantastic, offering a broad range of channels and shows to entertain and delight everyone in your household. For an awful lot of people the entertainment pack will be enough. If you’re one of them, then we’re pleased for you. Carry on.
But Foxtel, as Australia’s biggest pay TV broadcaster offers a whole lot more than that, with specialist channel packs which delve deeper into every possible genre, delivering quality programming in drama, movies, sports, and documentaries.
Today, we’re comparing the half price Entertainment package with the sports package, so you can see which is the right choice for you.
We don’t even have to say that we think the half price entertainment package is good value for money. It’s $25/month, which is a huge price drop, and indicates that Foxtel is trying to attract new customers at a price everyone can afford. We broke the cost down further to show that what you’re actually being charged is a mere 60 cents per channel per month.
So we’re equally excited that the the sports pack is also available from $25/month. Don’t get too excited yet, because, this comes with a caveat – you can’t purchase the sports pack alone. It has to be purchased as part of the ‘Sports Combo’ package, and gives you fifteen dedicated sports channels on top of the 45 which come with the basic entertainment pack. In total, you’ll be paying $50/month. Not bad at all, especially considering that until very recently, $50 was an entry level price.
45 Channels! We think it’s very unlikely that if you turn your TV on at any time of the day or night, there won’t be something that you want to watch. We’re not going to list every one of the channels, but highlights include BBC UK TV, the home of the very best in British entertainment, showing high quality detective series, gripping dramas, and hilarious comedies; Fox8, with its exclusive series, event television, hot international shows and local productions; and National Geographic Channel, the home of smart, factual entertainment about life, the universe and everything in between. In addition there are more music channels that you can shake a stick at, along with the latest local news, international news and sports news.
The sports combo gives you all this and then some. Sure, Eurosport News will give you the basics of what’s happening in the sporting world, and Sky racing will will certainly get your blood pumping if you’re into thoroughbreds or greyhounds, but committed sports fans need more.
And that’s fortunate, because the sports pack will give them so much more.
It goes without saying that Foxtel’s coverage of sports is exceptional, with more live sports coverage than any other network in Australia spread over six own branded channels. And you also get access to non-Foxtel channels for when ‘all the sport’ isn’t quite enough. If you’re a fan of basketball, American football, UEFA, or the UK FA cup, you’ll find them all on the two ESPN channels, and for all other sporting events from around the world, there’s Eurosport.
Unique selling point
As we said earlier on, the Entertainment pack has something for everyone – even sports fans. That’s it’s core appeal, and no matter how big your family or what your maiden aunt’s particular interest is, there will be something there for them. House full of children? No problem – you’ll have Boomerang and Disney Jr. to keep them happy. The irresistible desire to spend money at 3:00 am when you can’t sleep? TVSN has your back with 24 hour shopping. And if you just want to chill out and listen to the latest hot hits of any genre, Foxtel offers 30 audio-only stations in addition to several genre specific music TV channels.
You’re asking for the Unique Selling point of the Foxtel Sports combo. Seriously? How about this: In addition to stunning content available every day on each of the fifteen sports channels, Foxtel has acquired the rights to show the biggest and the best sports events, wherever they are in the world. Here are just a few of them: The ICC Cricket World Cup, the NRL Telstra Premiership, Asteron Life Super Rugby, V8 Supercars Championship, Toyota AFL Premiership Season, and the IRB Rugby World Cup.
Just as the entertainment pack caters to every possible flavour of entertainment, the sports pack offers every type of sport at every level.
The bottom line
The Foxtel entertainment pack is great – we love it, you’ll love it, and if you only need to stay abreast of the latest scores and headlines, or are particularly fond of racing, it will do everything you need to see at a low price.
If your enthusiasm for the beautiful game runs deeper, you can’t lose by spending a little extra on the sports pack to get complete coverage of the best the sporting world has to offer.
