Wifi (also spelled as Wi-fi) is the name given to the technology that provides a local area wireless connection using radio waves.
Wifi is available in commercial or residential use, and is widely popular because it allows internet access without being directly connected to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) through a cord or cable.
To gain a Wifi connection all you need is a modem that allows transmission via a wireless router. Fortunately modems are now standard across newer devices (computers, tablets and smart phones), or can be leased through your Internet Service Provider. Occasionally you can acquire a modem at no cost when purchasing a twelve month digital package plan.
