2019 Cricket World Cup

The 2019 Cricket World Cup will see the top ten teams from across the globe venture to England and Wales, where the host country will join them in a tournament to decide this year’s champion. The tournament starts on 30 May, and includes 45 day/night matches. The participating countries are Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Afghanistan and Bangladesh. The top four teams will then proceed to the Semi-finals on July 9, with the winners meeting in the World Cup Final on June 14. The defending champs are Australia, who narrowly defeated arch-rivals New Zealand to claim their fifth World Cup.

World Cup Preview

Hope is well and truly over Australia after their success in the previous edition of the Cricket World Cup (2015), which included a victory over their nemesis the New Zealand Black Caps in the Final. Australia are hard fit after a recent India series where they showed flashes of brilliance during their T20 and ODI matches, and will be looking for their sixth World Cup, and a chance to repeat in spite of their up and down performances of late.

It should also be noted that host nations do not have much success in the World Cup, so that does not bode well for England. India will enter the number one ranked side in ODI Cricket, with New Zealand, South Africa and Australia also expected to do quite well. The Australian public love their Cricket, so there’s much pressure on the team to advance far and share in the excitement generated by the defence of their status as the reigning champions.
